Gurgle Jug/ Glug Jug Copper Green Fish Water Jug

Product Code: 901977
Variously called a glug jug or Dartmouth fish, the gurgling jug first appeared in 1953 This water jug takes the form of a fish with detailed scales with open mouth pointing straight up for pouring and with a curled up tail providing the handle.
The “gurgling” sound is produced when the jug is tipped up and it was designed in such a way that trapped air escapes from the tail as the liquid is poured.
Originally produced in copper green only, it was soon available in a kaleidoscope of colours including Norse blue, red and honey yellow among many. It is possible to date a jug according to the colour of its glaze. For example, in the 1970’s, dark brown was a particularly popular colour. The multicoloured jugs are particularly sought after.
